About Environment Missouri
Who we are
Environment Missouri is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. We believe there’s something special about Missouri — something worth protecting and preserving for future generations. Whether it's paddling down the beautiful Current River or biking across the state on the Katy Trail, Missouri's natural wonders enrich our lives in countless ways. Yet the places we love and the environmental values so many of us share are too often threatened by powerful industries, short-sighted politicians and more. Defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy and spirited grassroots action. That’s the idea behind Environment Missouri. Together with thousands of supporters from all walks of life, we take the kind of action that wins tangible results for our environment.

What we do
Funded by supporters like you, we research the challenges confronting Missouri's environment and educate the public about what’s at stake. Through our research reports, news conferences, interviews with reporters, op-ed pieces, letters to the editor and more, we raise awareness of environmental issues and promote sensible solutions. Our canvassers meet people where they are — in public places or door-to-door — raising awareness, recruiting new supporters and activists, and raising funds to support our work.
When decisions are being made about Missouri's environment, our elected officials hear plenty from the coal companies, developers and other powerful interests. We make the case for our environment and help people like you make your voice heard, through petitions, emails, letters, phone calls and more, all delivered to the right people just when it matters most.

Putting your support to work
- Restoring the Current River. The Current River is fed by a world-class spring system and provides habitat for hundreds of species of wildlife. It's the jewel of the Ozark's. But it's also one of the most endangered rivers in the country. We've mobilized thousands of Missourians to press the National Park Service to come up with a far-reaching management plan to restore the park to its former pristine glory.
- Fighting for State Park Funding. From the Katy Trail to the Ha Ha Tonka, our state parks are some of the country's best. But today, they face a backlog of $400 million in funding for critically needed upgrades and repairs. In 2011, we won protections for the State Parks Earnings Fund, a cornerstone parks funding source. But now, we are calling on leaders in Jefferson City to address the backlog of needs for our state parks in the General Assembly and to ultimately secure permanent and dedicated funding.
- Clean Air, Healthy Families. Power plants like Ameren's will release 90% less mercury polllution into our air under new EPA standards we supported - great news for Missouri's families, given mercury's toxic effect on how our kids think, learn and behave. With support from our members, we're now defending these standards from congressional attacks.
